GONZALEZ AMITA, Randy; VARGAS BATIS, Belyani; RODRIGUEZ FONSECA, Rubert  e  GARCES CASTILLO, Wilder. Plants intended for food on suburban farms of Santiago de Cuba. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.4, pp. 66-79.  Epub 02-Ago-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

Agrobiodiversity is the basis of food and nutritional security, its study is of vital importance. The objective of the work was to determine the composition, diversity and distribution of the plants destined for food in suburban farms of Santiago de Cuba. Once the farms were selected, the species were classified and floristic lists were drawn up. The botanical composition was evaluated, as well as indicators of alpha and beta diversity. For the analysis of the distribution, the main ranges were identified in relation to Cuba. The composition was stable between periods, showing a slight decrease in the total of genera and species. Vegetables (32.56%), condiments (16.28%), roots and tubers (16.28%) were the most represented groups. Alpha diversity increased with the arrival of rain in 70% of the systems studied where scarce species prevailed within the samples. Beta diversity showed low similarity between the comparisons made and more than 43% of them showed dissimilarity. This group of plants on farms is represented mainly by species that are widely cultivated in Cuba, however, several of the identified ranges of distribution include species with invasive potential.
