LIZCANO CHAPETA, Carlos Javier; CHAMORRO VALENCIA, Diego Xavier; VEGA, Edwin Patricio e CACHIMUEL COLTA, Raymi Gabriel. Legal provisions of community water management and indigenous peoples in Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp. 514-522. Epub 30-Jun-2022. ISSN 2218-3620.
With population growth, globalization processes, climate change and the accelerated consumption of natural resources have led to their scarcity, today there is a dangerous lack of water in the world. Consequently, the purpose of this research was to analyze the normative provisions that establish community water management, revaluing the customs of indigenous peoples and to observe if in reality these management processes are being satisfactorily fulfilled. Initially, a documentary research was developed to study international and national regulations in relation to community water management by indigenous groups. Field work was also applied in a specific community. The results showed a lack of knowledge of the population under study about some steps and procedures regarding community water management and a distancing from the actions taken by the State. It was concluded that despite the efforts made by the State, more effective public policies are required that include ancestral peoples and communities in such water management, rescuing their values and traditions in the effective care of that source of life.
