MANALS CUTINO, Enma M.; VENDRELL CALZADILLA, Frank e PENEDO MEDINA, Margarita. Application of Activated Carbon of Coconut shell in Adsorption of Metal species Contained in Waste liquor (WL) Acid leaching of Lateritic Mineral. RTQ [online]. 2016, vol.36, n.1, pp. 93-103. ISSN 2224-6185.
The present work studies the ability of coconut shell activated to adsorb metal ions present in the residual waste acid leaching of lateritic coal. Experiments were performed in laboratory scale batch reactor with magnetic stirring, to the following conditions: agitation speed of 200 rpm, temperature 21 °C, contact time 20, 40 and 60 min. As a result adsorption percentages up to 39.5% nickel and adsorption capacity of Ni (II) 1,125 mg/g of granular activated carbon (GAC) they are reached. The adsorption of Co (II) was up to 48, 9 % and the carbon adsorption capacity of 0.24 mg/g of GAC. In the experiments carried varying the dose of adsorbent between 20 and 200 g of GAC/L liquor, to analyze the influence of the mass of adsorbent capacity, adsorption rate and change in pH of the liquor was obtained as most significant aspect the reduction of the high acidity of the liquor from 1,23 to values ranging between 7,22 and 7,35.
