LOPEZ SANTA CRUZ, Dámasa Irene; LLERENA RANGEL, Celia Isabel; ROMERO GAMBOA, Adriana  e  VAZQUEZ PEREZ, Armando Luis. Report of one clinical case of human rabies in Havana. Anales de la ACC [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.2  Epub 01-Ago-2021. ISSN 2304-0106.

Rabies is a widely distributed illness and if it is not treated on time, it is 100% fatal, both in humans and animals. In 2016, in Boyeros municipality, Havana, one case of human rabies was registered, transmitted by a cat. Objective: to present the results of a clinical and epidemiologic piece of research for the identification of a human rabies case transmitted by a cat. A deceased 21-year-old youth was studied. He died of viral encephalitis, suspected of having been produced by rabies virus, preceded by the aggression of a cat in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba municipality. The diagnostic was confirmed post mortem by the National Institute of Reference (IPK). It highlights the importance of carrying out preventive actions in the community when the diagnostic of human rabies is suspected. Conclusions: actions should be increased and the clinical epidemiological method should be applied, the domestic cat population should be included in the rabies vaccination campaign, the population’s risk perception should be increased, and the culture of animal ownership should be improved.
