The Faculty of Medicine at the University of El Salvador has existed since 1847, created just six years after the founding of this institution of higher education, it celebrated 176 years of existence, during which it has developed, in some periods at a dizzying pace and at others too slowly, with periods of stagnation due to both natural disasters and the management of the authorities in power. The objective of this article is to systematize the evolution of medical education at the University of El Salvador, based on the various educational means and implements used that have favored the development of digital and technological skills required for the optimal use of new equipment. Knowing the development of the Doctorate in Medicine career at the University of El Salvador is of vital importance to face the educational, academic and technical requirements that are present in the second decade of the 21st century. When analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of emerging technologies, it turns out that they are important as a complement to current teaching practices, even in digital native students, since the expectation, enthusiasm and motivation to face traditional practice does not replace the use of simulators or virtual environments. On the other hand, the academic and technical preparation of teachers is essential in order to develop their digital and technological skills required for the optimal use of the new equipment.
