FERNANDEZ LUIS, Yailén; CEDRE HERNANDEZ, Tamara  e  ZAMORA RODRIGUEZ, Luis. Posttransfusional adverse reactions to blood components. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2004, vol.38, n.2, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2988.

In order to know the posttransfusion adverse reactions, a descriptive and cross-sectional prospective study was conducted by an intensive surveillance method focused on the transfused blood components in a period of 6 months. 12 adverse reactions were detected in 10 patients. All the reactions were non immediate hemolytic. 50 % of them were of the febrile type and the other 50 % were allergic. The red blood cells produced the highest number of reactions, accounting for 58 % with predominance of the febrile type. Age, sex, blood group and Rh factor did no influence on the appearance of adverse reactions. Most of the reactions occurred among patietns who had been transfused 3 or more times. The global incidence of posttransfusion reactions was 8 %. It was observed a prevalence of the moderately severe febrile and of the mild allergic reactions
