DEBESA GARCIA, Francisco et al. Main results of the Cuban System of Drug Surveillance in 2003. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2004, vol.38, n.3, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2988.

The functioning and the main results of the Cuban Drug Surveillance System at all the health levels, in 2003, are described. During 12 months, the cases were identified by the volunteer notification system of suspicion of adverse drug reactions. 12 601 notifications of adverse drug reactions (DAR) containing 25 348 DAR suspicions were received at the National Coordinating Unit of Drug Surveillance for a notification rate of 1 119 reports x 1 000 000 inhabitants. 66 % of the ADRs corresponded to females and 34 % to males. As regards the assistance level, the primary care level notifies the most with 83.5 %. It was considered as encouraging the fact that the relation of mild adverse reactions with respect to the moderate and severe was 55.3 %/44.7 %, which continues with a fairly good balance in connection with the severity report. 54 reactions with fatal outcome were reported, accounting for 0.2 %. The notifications received in our unit allowed to quantify and characterize ADRs. They also have a great value to generate alerts and to watch the safety of drugs circulating in our country.

Palavras-chave : Adverse drug reactions.
