PEREZ RAMOS, Patricia et al. Chemophysical parameters of carboxymethylchitosan. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2005, vol.39, n.2, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2988.

The characterization of carboxymethylchitosan synthesized starting from chitin obtained from lobster shells, should be seen from an integral view. The results obtained by using different techniques and the making of tests, such as the determination of humidity and ashes, thermal analysis and the determination of the percentage of amino and carboxyl group, as well as the difraction of X-rays, allow to have a general assessment of the obtained product. These reports improve the databases necessary for the evolution and development of scientific research at the world level. It is proved in this paper that the thermal stability of carboxymethylchitosan synthesized extends to approximately 250ºc, that the compound is amorphous, with percentages of present amino groups of 60.1 ± 3 % and pKa of 5.9, whereas for the carboxyl groups 48 ± 4 % and pKa of 3.2 , are reported. The specific optical rotation has an approximate value of 0,735 ± 0,007. . On the other side, the results of humidity and the ignition residuals correspond to the reported in literature.

Palavras-chave : Carboxymethylchitosan; thermal analysis; potentiometric assessment; specific optical rotation..
