OSICKA MARINICH, Rosa Magdalena et al. Profile of adverse drug reactions reported in Chaco, Argentina. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2014, vol.48, n.1, pp. 89-95. ISSN 0034-7515.

Introduction: knowing toxicity associated to the use of drugs is a particular concern for patients, prescribers, providers and regulators. The adverse reactions are a major cause not only for medical consultation but also for hospitalization and sometimes bring about death. Objective: to conduct the evaluation of notification of adverse drug reactions. Methods: retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study. The reporting of adverse drug reactions from 2006 through 2012 were evaluated, based on the data from received reports contributed by both public and private hospitals and health centers in Chaco province, Argentina, as peripheral effectors of the National Pharmacovigilance System. The yearly reporting rate of adverse reactions per one million inhabitants was estimated. Results: in this period, a total of 535 reports of adverse drug reactions were received, thus obtaining an average of 77 reports per year and a reporting rate of 73 reports per one million inhabitants. Regular behavior of some indicators was observed every year, as the prevalence of adverse reactions in females, the gastrointestinal system and skin disorders, among the most reported, and the prevalence of b-lactam antibiotics, ACE inhibitors and NSAIDs as the most reported groups of drugs. Regarding intensity and accountability, the moderate and the probable ones prevailed respectively. Conclusion: although the yearly rate of adverse drug reactions in Chaco, Argentina is low, the achieved results are an important contribution to their knowledge in the above-mentioned region.
