Resumo

Some of the antecedents of the journals of medicine in general, are reported, and the origins of the National Bibliography of Medicine, in particular, are explained. A detailed description was made from the formal and  contents point of view of the history about the Medicial Repertoirs of Havana, from the analysis, synthesis and systematization of informations recorded in documents refering to this journal, being the year 1840 the indicator for the  beginning of the scientifical production that was periodically published for the cuban doctors. It is aimed to emphasize that is important for the present and future generations of physicians, managers and specialists in health publicity, to know in some details, the base which has supported the progress of the country’s medical literature.
