ABAY DEBS, Vivian; BENITEZ QUEVEDO, Gloria  e  MONZON TORRES, Luis. Initial diagnosis of the cadres registered for the Health Management Diploma´s course in Camagüey province. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2011, vol.37, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

Introduction The Health Management Diploma´s course was aimed at providing the health sector cadres with the necessary preparation in management sciences to cope with the challenges posed by the present development of the Cuban health care system. Objectives To make a preliminary analysis of the knowledge, motivation, expectations and self-evaluation of the cadres registered for the Health Management Diploma's course in Camagüey province. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional research study was conducted, in which an initial diagnostic test and a self-report type survey were applied, supplemented by interviews to both the bosses of the participants and several employees under these participants. Results Females working in the primary health care subsystem predominated in this sample. Most of the participants answered wrongly the questions of the initial diagnostic test. The main criterion of the registration for the diploma's course was that this was a mandatory requisite included in the policy set for cadres. Both the participants and their bosses and subordinates agreed to the most relevant individual characteristics for the management work. The results of the anlysis of the mentioned personal satisfaction reasons and others closely related factors were controversial. More importance was attached to the political and ideological preparation of the cadres than to their training in management sciences. The self-evaluation of the work results did not fully match with the assessment made by the bosses of the participants. Conclusions This research study identified restrictions in the basic knowledge about public health in the participants, which must be deeply analyzed during the course. Other results suggested that new research works must be conducted in the future.
