CARTELLE CRUZ, María de Jesús; RIVERA SUAREZ, Yicel  e  REYNA SOLER, Luis Mariano. A system for planning orthopedic surgery in limbs. RCIM [online]. 2013, vol.5, n.1, pp. 73-81. ISSN 1684-1859.

Different orthopaedic surgical procedures have a high level of complexity and require proper planning to increase the chances of their success. From a general perspective, preoperative planning in Cuban hospitals is carried out in a traditional way, so it is prone to human error and magnification, and requires a considerable investment of time and additional material. The scientific problem of this research is how to incorporate the computer-assistance to the planning process of orthopaedic limb surgeries in the hospitals of Cuba. Rational Unified Process was used as the development methodology and as modeling language the Unified Modeling Language (UML for its acronym in English) version 2.1. Enterprise Architect tool in its version 7.5 was used in the creation of diagrams and in the implementation of the application was used Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.This article specifies the main functionalities of the limbs module, was implemented and integrated to Orthopaedic Surgical Planning System (PQO in Spanish). The application will allow specialists to perform preoperative planning of orthopedic surgery using fewer resources and less time.
