PEREZ-PEREZ, Milvia et al. Visual memory in the third age. Regularities for interface design. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.3 Epub 01-Dez-2020. ISSN 1815-5936.
The application of neurosciences to designing permits the creation of products tailored to the needs and cognitive characteristics of vulnerable populations. During interface designing, visual memory is a key element for its correct operation. This work aims at establishing the first associative and non-associative visual memory criteria applicable by cognitive ergonomics to interface designing in third age persons. A correlational type study was carried out, where the sample consisted of 73 healthy persons over 60 years old. The results show that larger response omissions appear in persons of this population group as they grow older and have higher schooling. Probably, this is due to a tendency to inhibition before doubt, lack of understanding or conflict situation when operating the interfaces and electronic devices using abstract visual stimuli in their functioning. Alternatives are discussed to incorporate this information to interface designing.
