ESCOBEDO NICOT, Miriela Milagros et al. Morphological classification of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in digital images. Rev cuba cienc informat [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.1, pp. 1-13. ISSN 2227-1899.

Morphological analysis of cells in microscopic samples images is an important matter, because the morphological changes may represent a response to situation cells are summited to. This paper is focused in obtain an automatic morphological classification of cells in images of 2D cultures of human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) for angiogenesis studies. The supervised classification of cells was performed in three classes: circular, deformed elongated (elongated) and deformed slightly elongated (other deformations), using the elliptical shape coefficient (ESF) and circular shape coefficient (CSF), allowing the identification of cell shapes that express morphological elements that are relevant for the assessment of the angiogenesis process. All algorithms were implemented in Matlab® platform.  The results demonstrate the feasibility of the application of this proposal and that it can be used to facilitate the study of early events under the effects of the use of angiogenesis inhibitors.
