Resumen
CARASSOU GUTIERREZ, Mara et al. Early signs of atherogenesis in adolescents. Rev. cuban. med. mil. [online]. 2023, vol.52, n.2 Epub 01-Jun-2023. ISSN 1561-3046.
Introduction:
Investigations aimed at identifying atherogenic risk factors in children and adolescents show that diseases, as a consequence of atherosclerosis in adults, are generated from an early age of life.
Objective:
To identify early atherogenic signs in adolescents.
Method:
An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, which included 298 adolescents from 11 to 16 years of age. The variables overweight-obesity, arterial hypertension, smoking, physical inactivity and inadequate diet were identified.
Results:
20.5% of adolescents were prehypertensive and 2.3% hypertensive. 40.3% had changes in body weight and 44.3% had abdominal obesity. The most representative early atherogenic sign, related to lifestyles, was light physical activity in 36.6%.
Conclusions:
The early atherogenic signs most frequently identified are abdominal obesity, overweight and sedentary lifestyle, in this order.
