The actions for the promotion of health and prevention of stomatological diseases are part of the object of the profession in the current study plan of the Stomatology career. Objective: To analyze the historical evolution of the training process of the stomatologist in Cuba, in relation to the performance in promotion and prevention of oral health. Qualitative research was developed using theoretical methods: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic; At the empirical level, bibliographic and documentary review was used. A characterization of three stages framed from 1969 to the present is provided, provided by historical-pedagogical milestones in the training of Dentistry students in Cuba. In relation to the indicators identified for the historical analysis in relation to the professional performance in promotion and prevention of oral health, the transit in the continuous improvement in the study plans, for the training of professional performance and in the methods was evidenced, used in the teaching process, however there are still insufficiencies in the training of the Dentistry student.
