The main objective of maintenance is to support the operation of the equipment (assets) within the systems or processes, in order to maintain their capacities and the functions that are developed in the industry to the maximum. Therefore, maintenance is an important process in any entity and its management needs to be measured in order to close the cycle of continuous improvement described by Deming and currently according to the ISO 9000:2000 standard. The objective of this research was to determine the variables that allow evaluating maintenance management. This analysis is carried out from a bibliographical review on maintenance management diagnostic tools. As results, the determination and validation of these variables is obtained in the Aqueduct and Sewerage Companies belonging to the hydraulic sector, which allows the maintenance managers of the entity under study to make decisions, by having identified the metrics that are fit this sector. These metrics will be used with the support of existing methods based on Multicriteria Methods for the evaluation of the management of this process. In the development of this work, techniques, methods and tools typical of the field of research were applied, such as: Theoretical, empirical and statistical methods, where analysis and synthesis, questionnaires and the Delphi method by rounds, respectively, are among the most prominent.
