Certain maxillofacial conditions may lead to a compulsory tracheostomy and even, after some years, to fiberscope-assisted intubation before proceeding to a general anesthesia surgery. The fiber optic endoscopy is an effective but delicate method requiring a staff specially trained in difficult intubation since this technique avoids the disturbances of tracheostomy.
