A bibliographic reference review of perioperative prophylaxis, its principles, indications, modes of administration and selection of the most suitable antibiotics is conducted. The incidence of adquired sepsia in hospital is shown as well as 186 medical records of operated patients were checked. Perioperative antibiotics were given to 63.6 % of the cases and postoperative sepsis was reported only in 16.6 %. 75 % of the group of patients who were not given the antibiotic prophylaxis suffered from sepsis, therefore, the nedd for and effectiveness of this method is proved
