Systemic sclerosis or scleroderma is a chronic disease affecting the skin and the rest of the systems of organs. One of the most commonly damaged is the esophagus, where a chronic peptic esophagitis occurs that rarely produces lethal complicated as the massive bleeding observed in the clinical case that received attention in our center. An urgent operation was necessary and subtotal esophagectomy with gastric substitution (Ivor-Lewis technique) was performed. A review of the medical literature showed that these complicated cases are unusual, but that the incidence of damages caused by this disease is high
