FERNANDEZ SUAREZ, Lázaro Manuel  e  LEAL MONJIOTTI, Zoraida. Hemodilución normovolémica intencional alternativa práctica para la transfusión homóloga de sangre en cirugía general y especializada. Rev Cubana cir [online]. 2000, vol.39, n.2, pp. 152-159. ISSN 1561-2945.

Intentional normovolemic hemodilution is a useful technique reducing the transfusion requirements by 15 to 40%. It represents a saving of homologous blood, creates a reserve of antigen blood, reduces the number of hematids lost in a surgical haemorrhage, improves blood flow and lower blood viscosity to increase hystic oxigenation and decrease the possibilities of pulmonar thromboembolism among other benefits. A retrospective study of 50 supposedly healthy patients with catetory I-II of ASA (American Society of Anesthesia) was made on the use of normovolemic dilution. According to a nomogram, blood extraction was made to take hematocrit to 0.25 before surgery, a value that was confirmed with microhematocrit technique and intraoperative controlled. No abnormal fluctuation of coagulation test values were observed. There was an unquestionable saving of homologous blood with the corresponding benefit for the patient
