A multicenter, descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in 88 patients operated on of thyroid cancer in the province of Camagüey, from 1985 to 1995. Females were the most affected in a ratio of 5.8:1 compared with males.. 73.86 % of the cases were between 19 and 50 years old. The tumor was mostly anatomically located in the thyroid gland. The most used paraclinical examination was scintigraphy, whereas the most frequent result was the "cold" nodule. The fine needle aspiration biopsy proved to be of great diagnostic sensitivity in the cases where it was performed. Total thyroidectomy was the most used surgical technique.
