38 medical histories from patients that were admitted due to abdominal trauma with pancreas injury at "Dr. Mario Catarino Rivas" Honduran Institute of Social Security, at the private clinics of San Pedro Sula, and at the Teaching Hospital (Tegucigalpa), Honduras, from January, 1st, 1995, to December 31st, 1996, were retrospectively reviewed. Males predominated in this series (86.6 %) and the pancreas trauma appeared more frequently during the third decade of life (42.1 %). In all the cases of this series the trauma mechanism was penetrating and the causal agents were gunshot (68.4 %) and stab (31.6 %). The injury-surgical intervention time was lower than 5 hours in 44.5 % of the cases. The most frequent associated injuries were those of the stomach (71 %), liver (26.3 %) and diaphragm (26.3 %). External drainage was performed alone or associated with other surgical procedure in most of the cases (78.8 %), but 6 patients (15.7 %) required distal pancreatectomy. Seven patients (18.4 %) had 13 complications, among which the most frequent were: pancreatic fistula (10.5 %), wall abscess (7.8 %) and intraabdominal abscess (5.2 %). 2 patients died (5.2 %). Average hospital stay was 32 days (range: 0-78days)
