Abstract

MORALES WONG, Mario Miguel. Physiological tolerance of the patient with trauma and the role of the multidisciplinary group: it is time to change. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2008, vol.47, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2945.

The way of thinking and acting during the attention to patients with complex lesions has experienced changes that have brought about an important modification of the results manifested in a substancial reduction of severe complications and mortality. A search was made in Medline starting from the terms related to resuscitation and the treatment of patients with complex traumas. Abstracts on this regard were obtained and the originals were requested to different authors for a detailed review of the topic. In order to attain better results in connection with mortality in this field, it is necessary to change the current doctrines of treatment that pay little attention to the physiopathological disorders or changes ocurring in the patient with multiple lesions and in the exanguinated patient, whose high mortality depends not only on the lesions, but also on the treatment given to each of them when the physiological tolerance of the patients is not taken into account. The multidisciplinary team plays a decesive role in this situation.

Keywords : Damage-control surgery; exanguination, trauma; resuscitation; physiological tolerance; trauma multidisciplinary team.
