Abstract

GARCIA RODRIGUEZ, Miguel Emilio; ARMAS PEREZ, Bárbaro; ARMAS MOREDO, Karina  and  ALVAREZ ESCALANTE, Gretel. Oligometastases and oligo-recurrence of lung cancer, are they conditions pointing to death?. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2014, vol.53, n.2, pp.213-225. ISSN 0034-7493.

The metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer patients have a poor prognosis. Present debates discuss a group of these patients with synchronous or metachronous lesions that can survive for a long period of time after removing the primary lesion, and its metastases of cerebral and adrenal location in vast majority. In this regard, an extensive literature review focused on the metastatic condition of the non small cell lung cancer was made. Databases such as Pubmed, Medline, Ebsco, Cochrane and Redalyc were consulted and scientific evidence on this topic was analyzed. It was concluded that metastases and recurrences found in patients suffering pulmonary cancer have been considered as conditions pointing to death. These patients have been treated with systemic therapies as a group. The surgery remains a therapeutic option, reinforcing the theory of "the seed and the soil".

Keywords : lung cancer; metastasis; recurrences; treatment; surgery.
