Abstract
GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, José Luis and ZAMORA SANTANA, Orlando. Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2014, vol.53, n.4, pp.397-401. ISSN 0034-7493.
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are primary mesenchymal, either fusiform or epitheloid, tumors of the digestive tract that have immune phenotypic similarities to Cajal's cells located around the myenteric plexus. Prognosis is associated to certain extent to the anatomic location, being more malignant those located in the small bowel as a general tendency. Here is the case of a 54 years-old man with a gastrointestinal stromal tumor on the second portion of the duodenum; he was operated on and after six months, his progress is satisfactory.
Keywords : duodenum; tumor; gastrointestinal stroma.
