A cross-sectional study of 200 children who were born at the "Mariana Grajales" Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital, in the city of Santa Clara, from 1988 to 1989, was conducted aimed at evaluating the influence of the nutritional factor on the quality and texture of dental tissues. 100 of them were fetal malnourished and the rest had a normal growth. It was observed a high incidence of dental hypoplasias in children who suffered from malnutrition, as well as a high prevalence of dental caries, which reveals the decesive role of nutrition in dental formation.
