BETANCOURT VALLADARES, Miriela; PEREZ OVIEDO, Antonio Cecilio; ESPESO NAPOLES, Nelia  y  MIRANDA NARANJO, Madelín. Gingival inflammation associated with risk factors during pregnancy. Rev Cubana Estomatol [online]. 2007, vol.44, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-297X.

A experimental community intervention study was undertaken in the municipality of Florida, Camagüey, from December 2005 to February 2007. 21 pregnant women were included in the study. They answered a questionnaire that collected all the information necessary to relate the affectation by gingival inflammation to oral hygiene and previous pregnancy as risk factors between the first and the third semester of gestation in order to confirm changes. The intervention consisted in the carrying out of activities of prevention, health promotion and treatment of General Comprehensive Stomatology. Gingival inflammation was observed in a great number of pregnant women. A decrease of the affectations was detected on the third trimester of pregnancy. There was a relation between the reduction of gingival inflammation and the favourable changes in oral hygiene as pregnancy progressed. The most affected expectants were those with previous pregnancy as risk factor.

Palabras clave : Previous pregnancy; gingival inflammation; risk factors.
