A method including the previous extraction of the degradation product of benzocaine pesent in a new rectal ointment to treat acute haemorrhoid was developed by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The analytical method was validated for the study of the chemical stability of this active principle. According to the standing statistical criteria, the method proved to be lineal, exact, accurate, sensitive and specific for the objective it was designed.
