Resumen

The preliminary phytochemical screening of 23 vegetal parts from 14 species of the genus Croton L. was carried out. 8 of them were endemic, Euphorbiaceae family. Alkaloids, aminoacids, cardenolides, simple phenols, flavonoids, proantocyanidins, quinones, saponins, tannins, triterpenes and sterols were detected, according to the method established by Rondina and Coussio. The results obtained for each species were presented. Triterpenes and sterols were the main metabolites found for the screened species.
