A review and synthesis of the information on cephalosporins, an important group of antibiotics, is made. Aspects such as their origin, action mechanism, pharmacokinetics, classification, in vitro activity, dosages and indications are stressed in order to achieve among our general comprehensive physicians an improvement and updating in the clinical use of these antimicrobics.
