RUBIO HERNANDEZ, Luis Alberto et al. Grado esperado de uso de los antimicrobianos aminoglucósidos en pacientes oncológicos. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2002, vol.36, n.1, pp. 42-49. ISSN 1561-2988.

A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the expected use degree of the aminoglycosides in oncologic patients admitted at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology (NIOR), takning into account all the variables that were considered for this investigation. The behavior of each analyzed variable against the expected use degree was also discussed. The following categories were established for its evaluation : high, relative high, limited and unacceptable. The SPSS program for Windows, version 7.0 (1995) was used in the statistical processing. Techniques of multivariate analysis, such as correlation coefficients of Spearman, factor analysis of the main components, analysis of Cluster and discriminating analysis, were applied. It was proved that according to the methodology used there was no classification within the high category and that only 31 % of the patients received a relative high prescription. The rest of the treatment with aminoglycosides was classified as limited (58 %) and unacceptable (11 %). The prevalence of unacceptable prescriptions (7.6 %) among patients over 59 was stressed. The best management of these antibiotics was observed in wards B and K, with high relative indicators of 58.8 and 50.0 %, respectively. The prophylactic management of aminoglycosides was discrete, since only 30.6 % were classified as relative high. Finally, it was observed that 74.5 % agreed with the classification on applying discriminating functions. This high percentage of well classified cases shows the quality of the analysis,. from which a new individual may be classified into one of these groups according to the expected use degree and taking into consideration the variables used in the obtention of such functions.
