For the first time in Cuba a 0.5 % Piroxican jelly formula was developed. The point of reference was the leader formula from FELEDENE GEL^â; market which underwent some modifications. During first assessments four experiments were carried out as basis for the later stage of formula design and optimization. An experimental design with mixture was applied using as independent variables the concentration of Carbopol 940, Trietanolamine, and Hidroxypropyl methylcellulose. Influence of these components on pH, the extensibility area, and on some organoleptic properties. From these results, an optimal formula was selected.
