Abstract

SANCHEZ RICARDO, Luisa Ivet  and  HERNANDEZ GARCIGA, Francisco Felipe. Benzodiazepine consumption of third age patients from the "Campo Florido" # 12 consulting room. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2010, vol.44, n.3, pp.346-353. ISSN 0034-7515.

A cross-sectional and descriptive research was conducted in the # 12 Consulting Room from the health area of "Campo Florido" Polyclinic from Habana del Este Municipality during the second semester of 2007 to examine the benzodiazepines consumption in third age patients. The main results demonstrated that there was predominance in female sex in the use of these drugs, elderlies with a great consumption aged 60-64, where the Diazepam was the more used; as regards the prescription, men followed in a greater measure the medical indications but not in females. Symptoms predominating were anxiety and sleeplessness. We conclude that psychotropic drugs in elderly population are a usual clinical practice deserving attention.

Keywords : Benzodiazepines consumption; Geriatrics; third age; health primary care.
