ISSN 0034-7523.
Seventy seven hypertensive patients who were waiting for a major surgical procedure were studied. All of them underwent a cold stimulation test, 72 hours before the operation in order to assess the sensitivity and specificity of this test for the prediction of perioperative blood pressure behaviour in these patients, as well as determine the optimum cut point for the positive diagnosis of the test. An adequate correlation was found between the perioperative blood pressure behaviour and the test results. Sensitivity was found to be of 95.7 %, and specificity of 98.1 %. The optimum cut point was consistent with the one reported in the literature.
