ISSN 1561-302X.
Thirty seven patients presenting with essential hypertension were studied. Patients underwent 4 basic investigations such as electrocardiogram, ergometric test, echocardiogram, and modified cold stimulation test. Previous and transtimulation electrocardiographic control was added to the Hiner and Brown cold stimulation test which represented the abovementioned modification performed. Sensitivity and specificity of the modified cold stimulation test were assessed in the diagnosis of the heart disease of the hypertensive patient. A correlation was found between left ventricular hypertrophy diagnosed by the echocardiogram and the positive result from the modified cold stimulation test. Sensitivity of the test was found to be of 100 % while specificity was 96 %.
