OLIVERT CRUZ, Magalys; ROMERO CABRERA, Ángel Julio; BEMBIBRE TABOADA, Rubén  y  BERMUDEZ LOPEZ, José. Disección aórtica: Estudio en un decenio (1987-1997). Rev cubana med [online]. 2000, vol.39, n.4, pp.217-221. ISSN 0034-7523.

A retrospective descriptive study of all the patients who underwent aortic dissection in a ten-year period (n=55) was conducted to find out the factors affecting the behavior of such disease and the mortality tendencies. Medical records and necropsy protocole which showed the anatomical and pathological diagnosis were reviewed. The predominance of male sex, white race, mean age of 76.32 years and a history of high blood pressure in 63.63% and of left ventricular hypertrophy in 74.54% of cases were confirmed. It was also observed that diagnosis on admission was only made in 18.18% of cases and the main symptoms were pain, dyspnea and loss of consciousness. Aortic rupture was verified in 34 cases, with increasing mortality tendency. The main results were shown in tables whereas mean, standard bias and rates were used for the analysis of results
