Resumen

ACOSTA TABARES, Silvio; FERNANDEZ MOLINA, Carmen  y  TOLEDO VILA, Herio. Infección por mycoplasmas en pacientes VIH/SIDA con enfermedad respiratoria. Rev Cubana Med [online]. 2003, vol.42, n.3. ISSN 0034-7523.

A prospective study was conducted in 60 HIV/AIDS patients with respiratory manifestations between March and July, 1998. It was found that 23 (38.3 %) had positive results for mycoplasmas and that the predominating clinical form in these patients was upper respiratory infection. 56.6 % had improved on discharge, whereas 8 patients (34.7 %) died. The CD4+ lymphocyte count under 200 cel/mm3 was observed in 69.9 %. The bronchopneumonic infiltrate was the most common radiological finding. Coinfection with other bacteria was present in 15 of the cases. Mycoplasma fermentans was the most frequently found species and the patients infected with this species were severely immunodepressed, besides being colonized by other germs, specially Pseudmona aeruginosa.

Palabras clave : MYCOPLASMA INFECTIONS [complications]; ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME; RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS.
