CHICO CAPOTE, Araceli; ESTEVEZ DEL TORO, Miguel Hernán; PEREZ CAMPOS, Dionisio  e  STUSSER, Rodolfo. Effect of arthroscopic débridement in knee osteoarthirtis. Rev cubana med [online]. 2007, vol.46, n.1. ISSN 0034-7523.

Osteoarthritis is a common disease at the rheumatology office, whereas knee arthrosis is, above all, a very disabling disease. There are various procedures we can perform to treat it by arthroscopy. 123 patients seen at the arthroscopy office with clinical suspicion of arthrosis during 2001 were studied to document the impact of débridement on the painful symptoms of the patient with knee arthrosis, and to identify some prognostic factors that may influence on the results obtained with this procedure. All of them underwent arthroscopy with débridement and articular lavage. They were followed-up for 2 years to observe their evolution and its relation to risk factors, such as: weight gain, diabetes mellitus, and poor alingment. It was concluded that the effect of débridement and articular lavage was good for most of the patients. 75 % of the cases experienced reduction of the pain intensity in more than 50 % 2 years after performing arthroscopy. It was proved that weight gain after surgery, diabetes mellitus, and poor alignment exerted a negative influence on a good evolution.

Palavras-chave : Knee osteoarthritis; débridement; articular lavage; risk factors..
