BARRIOS CAMBA, Joanchín; MAGRANS BUCH, Charles; MARTINEZ SOTO, Orquídea  e  BORREGO PINERO, Julio. Efficacy of low and high flow dialyzer reuse in hemodialysis. Rev cubana med [online]. 2008, vol.47, n.1. ISSN 0034-7523.

The dialyzer reuse is a problem of great magnitude in our country. An observational, descriptive and prospective study was conducted to determine the efficiency of reuse as regards quantity and quality per dialyzer. 8 patients were studied at the hemodialysis service of the Institute of Nephrology during 18 weeks. Low and high flow membranes were used in 2 stages. The reuse was automated, using peracetic acid as germicide. Urea was cleared (Kdu) from the dialyzer at 1, 6, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 27 uses. 432 hemodialyses were performed in all. The mean of the low flow dialyzers was 11.05, and it was14.07 for those of high flow. The Kdu of the low flow dialyzers diminished 5.5 %, whereas that of the high flow dialyzers dropped 6.3 %. The dialysis dose (Kt/V) received was maintained in 1.2 at 6 and 18 reuses. It was concluded that the mean of reuse of both types of dialyzers was similar. The Kdu does not change with both types of membranes up to the accepted residual volume. The reuse does not modify the dialysis dose received.

Palavras-chave : Reuse; low and high flow dialyzer; Kdu; Kt/V received.
