Abstract

RAMOS EMPERADOR, Carlos; GUERRA BUSTILLO, Guillermo  and  BARRANCO HERNANDEZ, Evangelina. The cardiorenal anemia syndrome. Rev cubana med [online]. 2010, vol.49, n.4, pp.372-379. ISSN 0034-7523.

The frequency of anemia in patients presenting with heart failure is very variable and its presence is estimated between the 4 and the 70 % increasing with the severity of functional class and has predictive value independent of mortality, approximately the half of patients presenting with myocardial dysfunction has some degree of deterioration of renal function and it is considered that the 64 % of patients presenting with renal disease and anemia establish a vicious circle in which each favors and increase to others leading to the cardiorenal anemia syndrome. The treatment for the correction of anemia in patients presenting with myocardial failure is not completely established, a possible option is the use of stimulators of erythropoietin combined with the administration of iron, although its effectiveness is not definitely confirmed.

Keywords : Cardiorenal syndrome; chronic renal disease; heart failure.
