Evidence-based medicine arose as a paradigm to the previous practice of medicine that had the pathophysiological reasoning of the disease and the doctor's experience as pillars. In order to update the knowledge of evidence-based medicine in relation to the clinical method, a descriptive bibliographic review of 29 articles related to the subject was carried out. 13 articles published in the last five years in journals of groups 1 and 2 were referenced, using SciELO, Medline, Pubmed, Hinari and Google Scholar databases. It was concluded that evidence-based medicine starts from critically evaluating scientific literature, so that research results can be reasoned in the construction of knowledge, that is, shortening the gap between research and clinical practice.
