Abstract
MARTINEZ CANALEJO, Humberto; LOYNAZ FERNANDEZ, Clara Silvia and FERRER MILIAN, Daniel Antonio. Indices de asimetría axial plana y asimetrías encefálicas. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1996, vol.68, n.3, pp.164-170. ISSN 0034-7531.
The asimmetry indexes are defined, their properties are established, and they are applied to the quantitative analysis of encephalic asimmetries, starting from an encephalometric study in vivo carried out by the computerized axial tomography of 180 sound individuals of both sexes and of a wide range of ages. The indexes of relative asimetry and those of disproportion or distribution (4 in all) have optimal properties of invariance as regards sex and age. Moreover, the member of each one of the 3 possible couples of indexes (of absolute asimmetry, of relative asimmetry, and of disproportion) are correlated in an optimal form, too. They show that the anatomical configuration considered is asimmetric in sound individuals, and that it can't be arbitrary but in a well-defined way.
