Abstract

GONZALEZ NUNEZ, Ida et al. Manejo del niño cubano hijo de madres seropositivas al virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH-1). Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1996, vol.68, n.3, pp.193-200. ISSN 0034-7531.

25 children of HIV-1 seropositive mothers have been born in Cuba so far. Only 12 (48 %) of them, who are seropositive, have been studied. 4 of them (33,3 %) developed AIDS. Besides, we followed a case who got the disease by a blood transfusion. These children are monthly followed-up at the outpatient department since their birth, and PCR (polymerase chain reaction), ELISA, and Western-Blot for HIV-1 are carried out at 3 and 9 months of age. The diagnostic is confirmed using the some tests at 18 and 36 months of age in order to hnow whether they are carriers or not.
