A review of 53 patients presenting with cleft palate of different types is reported. Patients were attended at the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Teaching General Hospital, Bayamo, Granma. In order to obtain the improvement of the psychologic and stomatologic function of the child, the frequency and the surgical techniques used in the service are also reported. Functional and cosmetic results were evaluated by a surgeon who did not participate in the operation, as well as a phoniatra and the orthodoncist. Results were considered as satisfactory in 88.7 % of cases, 9.4 % and 1.9 % were considered as fair or poor, respectively. Results are discussed and compared with the ones available in both the national and international medical literature.
