A two-year retrospective study of patients with intravascular catheterization admitted to «Ángel Arturo Aballí» Teaching Pediatric Hospital Intensive Care Unit was performed. 56 patients with 64 placed catheters were evaluated and associated complications were determined in such patients who represented 14.3 % of all cases. 17.6 % of under one-year old children had some complications. 11.7 % of the above percentage was septical. The greatest complications were related to subclavian catheter placement which accounted for 23 % of all percutaneous insertioncomplications whereas dissection accounted for a high number of infectious complications. Complications in malnourished patients doubled those of eutrophics. 11.7 % of children with placed catheters for over six days developed sepsis. Patients who had two or more catheter insertions suffered more complications and Staphylococcus was the most isolated microorganism.
