Abstract

HERNANDEZ SUAREZ, Blas; DE LA PARTE PEREZ, Lincoln  and  GONZALEZ PAEZ, Alexis. Correlación entre la oximetría de pulso y la gasometría arterial en el paciente de alto riesgo. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1998, vol.70, n.3, pp.148-152. ISSN 0034-7531.

An analysis of the value of the arterial saturation of hemoglobin was carried out in a prospective study of 20 pediatric patients, programmed to correct their cardiovascular anatomic defect; 20 samples were taken from them for blood gas analysis, and a continuous monitoring with a pulse oxymeter was ordered. Also a short story about percutaneous saturation measuring, is made; the technical characteristics of the equipment used, are listed. The data obtained are analyzed and compared, and it is concluded that the percutaneous saturation measurements are a great advancement in the respiratory and hemodynamical monitoring of the high risk patient to whom surgery is done; also, its non-invasive characteristics makes it the best and most economic choice in the operating room.

Keywords : OXYMETRY [methods]; BLOOD GAS ANALYSIS [methods]; HEART DEFECTS; CONGENITAL [blood].
