ALVAREZ ANDRADE, María Elena; FORCADE QUESADA, Omar; SANCHEZ, Rolando  y  RUBEN QUESADA, Mercedes. Fallo renal en el paciente con sepsis severa: Factores de riesgo. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1998, vol.70, n.3, pp.153-159. ISSN 0034-7531.

A restrospective study is performed on patients with severes sepsis entered in the Intensive Care Unit of the «Dr. Angel Arturo Aballí» Pediatric Teaching Hospital, during the period between January 1994 and May 1996. Ninety eight patients were studied; in them the renal function was assessed, and the presence of abscence of acute kidney failure, and its relation with age, dehydration, nutritional condition, use of nephrotoxic drugs, vesical catheter, shock, and ventilation was determined, with the aim of knowing the risk factors associated with the acute kidney failure. Among the main results, the following were found as risk factors: malnutrition (p= 0,01, RR= 4,2), nephrotoxic drugs (more than 2) (p= 0,001), vesical catheter (p= 0,000, RR=20), shock (p= 0,001, RR= 22,2), and ventilation (p= 0,000, RR= 50). Through logistic regression analysis, the high risk factors are: malnutrition, nephrotoxic drugs, and ventilation, with OR= 5,5; 10,3; and 62,8 values, respectively.

Palabras clave : SEPSIS [complications]; KIDNEY FAILURE, ACUTE [etiology]; KIDNEY FAILURE, ACUTE [diagnosis]; RISK FACTORS; INTENSIVE CARE UNITS, PEDIATRIC.
