ALVAREZ RODRIGUEZ, Alicia; LINARES RODRIGUEZ, Marisela  y  MARTINEZ RODRIGUEZ, Vicente. Two diagnostic procedures in the severe bacterial infection in the febrile child . Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2004, vol.76, n.3. ISSN 0034-7531.

The main objective of the evaluation of the child with fever without resource is at the risk he has for suffering from severe bacterial infection. This paper was designed to determine the usefulness of the 2 methods in the identification of the severe bacterial infection and to compare their results. It was recommended to make an evaluation of the diagnostic tools in 120 infants aged 29 days-12 months that were admitted due to fever without etiology at the moment of their visit to the emergency room of "Aleida Fernández Chardiet" General Hospital. The severe bacterial infections predominated in the risk and high risk groups wihtin the risk categories and in the groups I-II of the diagnostic categories. It was observed correlation between both diagnostic categories. It was considered that both methods were valid and it was suggested to generalize the categories of low risk and risk in the evaluation of the febrile child and introduce them into group III.

Palabras clave : Bacterial infections; sepsis; febrile child; risk categories.
