Abstract

VALDIVIA ALVAREZ, Ileana  and  CALANA GONZALEZ, Chais E.. Bioethical principles of the ketogenic diet project aimed at Cuban epileptic children. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2007, vol.79, n.2. ISSN 0034-7531.

The four principles of Bioethics, that is, welfare, no harm, autonomy and justice were analyzed and then applied to a ketogenic diet for epileptic children. Bradford questions were posed and answered, taking into consideration the benefits that this project may bring to the quality of life of the child and the caution of not damaging him/her with our treatment. Several inclusion and exclusion criteria and the need of requesting in all cases a written informed consent after knowing all the treatment elements were set forth.

Keywords : refractory epilepsy; bioethics; informed consent.
